Avi Was Born

This is the chronical of the delivery of Avi James Nathan Bosen - GALLERY

Pronunciation Guide /Ah' V/

Its probably a little clinical but I want to get the details down.  I will update this as new events occur so keep watching.  I may even take a picture or two.

  • May 21 2008 - 5:30PM - Took our puppies to Luke & Patti's and gave strict instructions to Ben on caring for our other babies.
  • 6:00PM - Dinner at Ruby River steak house - they gave us free icecream desert
  • 7:00PM - Checked into ERMC hospital to begin inducing
  • 8:00PM - Dr. Leavitt inserted "cervidil" to soften the cervix - dilated "finger tip"
  • May 22 2008 - 3:00AM - Dr. Leavitt stopped by and checked the cervidil
  • 7:00AM - Woke up - very uncomfortable sleep for both Sera and I
  • 7:30AM - Nurse and Student Nurse come in to check on Sera.  She readjusts the monitor and we start to see the contractions better.
  • 8:15AM - Nurse removes the "cervidil" & starts the IV - they will start the Pitosin soon.
  • 8:45AM - Dr. Leavitt came in to check on her.  She is still only dilated one finger.  He was going to rupture her membranes but can't because she isn't dilated enough.  He is coming back at noon to check again, and hopefully break her water.  We are starting the pitosin now.
  • 9:30AM - Luke, Patti, and Gail are her hanging out and comforting Sera.
  • 10:00AM - I snuck Sera some cinnamon roll
  • 10:30AM - Aunt Patty & Cousin Jackie came over. - Jonie is in the hospital too, she is getting surgery tomorrow.
  • 12:00PMish - Dr. Leavitt came and checked her.  She isn't dilated any more.  He tried to remover her membrane. The baby's blood pressure dropped for a bit.  They turned off the Pitosin.  He returned to normal.  They started the Pitosin back up again.
  • 1:00PM - Sera is sitting on a exercise ball, trying to relieve some pain.  Doc, Woody, and Amy came by.   Luke, Gail, Doc, Woody and Amy left.
  • Sera is staying out of the Shower with her monitors.
  • 4:00PM - Not much to report.  The nurse is upping her pitosin slowly.  We are in this for the long haul.  Gail, Doc, and Patti are hanging out, keeping Sera laughing.
  • 6:30PM - Dr. Leavitt came by and checked Sera.  He determined that he could break her water.  Sera was scared but did very well.  They put the contraction sensor between the baby and the cervix.  It tells more accurately the contraction strength.  She is very strong and regular, just like it should be.  Her nurse is going off shift.  The student nurse is still here.
  • 9:00PM - Strong contractions, Stronger contractions, Sera has had enough.  Time for real drugs.  We called the nurse and asked for the anesthesiologist.  The anesthesiologist is the same one that I had for my surgery a couple months ago.  I got to watch the whole needle operation, ugh scary.  Now she isn't in pain.  She can still feel the contractions but not the pain.  The nurse is putting a catheter in so she can have an empty bladder.  Sera is complaining about the sheer number of tubes sticking in her.  The nurse will check her dilation and see how close we are.  All in all she is doing very good.  She will probably nap for a while.  We are all going to try and get a bit of rest.  We still have some more time for before the action starts.
  • May 23rd 2008 - 3:30AM - We are exhausted but he is born.  He was breach so they had to take him C-Section.  Here are a couple pics.  I will fill in the story tomorrow.  You are lucky I have enough energy to do this.
  • Born May 23rd 12:24AM - 7lbs 9oz - Completely healthy
  • So the recovery room didn't have internet so I had to wait until now to update the story.  Avi is very healthy and happy.  Sera is recovering well from the surgery.  She has all the tubes out and is walking.  She is still drugged up, but that is necessary.  We are taking him home today.  You are all more than welcome to stop in the house (pocatello) and see us.  I was able to sleep in the IF house last night. I actually got a full night sleep.  Sera will really enjoy being in her own bed tonight.  Sera and Avi have been trying hard to nurse.  Avi is getting it figured out. Sera is working very hard.  Avi gets very grumpy when you make him uncomfortable.  But he is easy to satisfy too, just swaddle him, or burp him, or feed him.  A big thanks to all those that came by and helped.  Also it has been very nice to see the out pouring from all of those that could not come.  We love you all.
  • We have been home for a couple days now.  Things are going well.  Avi has been eating very regularly. Thanks all that have brought food.  It is very nice to have home cooking.
Avi Welcome to the world!

Welcome to the world, Avi! I can't wait to meet you. Greg, I'm so happy that you're doing this page. What a great idea!
Just a few things to remember about today, the day you were born:
The number 1 song on the billboards is "Lollipop" by Lil Wayne.
On the front page of the New York Times: "Israel and Syria Announce Talks of Peace Treaty"
Famous people born today: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Naomi Campbell
On this day in 1906 the Wright brothers patented the aeroplane.
Avi, I love you already.
Sera and Greg, enjoy every second!
Jamie
Happy Birthday!
May it be the first of many. :-)

Welcome to the world Baby Avi! What a blessing you are to all of us. We can't wait to meet you and be a part of your precious life. I am so happy for your little family. I hope you like to laugh, because you're mom and dad are pretty funny people. Love and health to you all.

Avi joins the family!
All our love is with you all who watch over this birth today. Breathe slow and deep when it gets the hardest Sera--just breathe. Breathing deep lifts your tummy off your uterus and lets it do its job more efficiently (and less painfully) The training in breathing under/through stress will help you much again in about 15 years!

Love you always, Sera and hope to hold Avi as I once held you -- linking the generations in time and in loving strength!

This child is the seventh generation on this continent following the matrilineal line from Luxembourg. This means many things, one of which is that this child is now fully indigenous to this continent.

Aunt Ivy
Thanks Greg!
Thank you, Greg! for creating a place where we can all rejoice together!

Welcome & Congrats!
Avi, Sera and Greg!

No species that I know of in the animal phylum welcomes a newborn like we humans do! Can anyone doubt that there is a God and this is indeed one of his children? All doubters have to hang their heads in wonderment when events like this take place or do they just cover their God given ability to think and reason and go about their existance happy with their thought that they are just another part of some chance existance?

Avi, to me you are living proof that God exists! Greg & Sera, you are also living proof that the core of God's existance is his love for us and your love for each other! Others in our phylum care for each other, some "mate" for life. But we share emotions, nurturing, support, compassion, and all the other adjectives together that make us His children!

It is through this Baptism of Fire that you, Sera and Greg are now crowned with the new title of Mother & Father! A title that I feel confident each of you will wear properly. There will be much "advice" given on what and how to wear these titles but in the end, you will have to decide! My hope and prayer is that you will do just that, decide. Don't take anything for granted. You both have good backgrounds and strong foundations. Draw from them and the depts of your inner self when you make all decisions concerning you and Avi. That way your life will be better and more importantly, so will be Avi's development and the development of a new generation!

God bless you guys! Don't forget to write somethng "personal" now reflecting on your feelings, emotions, thoughts and desires. Put these things away for special private times between the three of you. Life will add so much to your dealings that these thoughts will quickly fade and be put into history. Recalling them will become harder with the passing of time.

'til we all meet again in June!

Love You,

Dad (PaPa) (ralph bosen)

Dear Avi,
You are the cutest baby that I have even seen. It is nice to have another cousin that is a baby. Maybe I can hold you if you come to Virginia.

'Uncle Charlie'
Hey you two, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!, and a job well done for all involved! I just found out and I'm so happy for you (all 3). Just one thing I am disappointed about though, I didn't win the pot...Oh well, maybe next time? Love ya and can't wait to see the little man.
Avi-Gravy!!!! Welcome to the wide world of loving family!!!
O MAN!!! Your mother looks so beautiful -- and worn out! I relate, Sera! Pitosin is merciless, but Avi is certainly worth it!

I wish you both a month of rest while Daddy takes over the night duty and marvels at the grace and beauty of his first born in the wee hours.

You guys are AWESOME baby makers! I'm there in a couple of weeks, so see you soon!!
